Many men forget that they are still husbands and heads of their homes during this season. Some go on a spending spree not really understanding the purpose of Christmas. We still need to play our rightful roles during this season. January is coming and the demands for fees and other demands will be there. The wives will still look up to us to play our part. We have to be wise.
There is a lot that we can celebrate for because of Christ’s birth. God has been gracious to us throughout the twelve months and we need to understand why Christmas. Since the birth of Christ, history changed its course and we are happy that God brought Jesus Christ, born in human form, to reconcile us back to Him. We need then to enjoy this season and become a blessing to many others.
Matthew 1:23
"Behold, the virgin shall be with child, and bear a Son, and they shall call His name Immanuel," which is translated, "God with us."(NKJV)
Isaiah 7:14
Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a Son, and shall call His name Immanuel.(NKJV)
Isaiah 9:6-7
For unto us a Child is born, Unto us a Son is given; And the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Of the increase of His government and peace There will be no end, Upon the throne of David and over His kingdom, To order it and establish it with judgment and justice From that time forward, even forever. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this.(NKJV)
So Christmas to us is important in that:
1. Christmas is God’s way of letting us know that there are some things that can’t be ignored.
Because God is a just and holy God, He cannot ignore sin. In sending Jesus to earth with the ultimate goal of dying in our place, for our sins, God took care of the sin problem so He doesn’t have to ignore us.
2. Christmas is God’s way of getting personal with us.
By sending Jesus, He was giving us opportunity to get to know Him better as “the Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being” (Heb. 1:3). Jesus opened the door for us to be in a personal relationship with the Father.
3. Christmas is God’s way of saying “I will be with you always.”
Jesus, Immanuel – God With Us, came to live among mankind (Matt. 1:23). Though He ascended to heaven after His death and resurrection, He sent His Spirit to live within us. We do not have to be afraid. We can step out in faith with confidence.
4. Christmas is God’s way of letting us know that it is good to give.
“For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son” (Jn. 3:16). The holidays are an especially good time to consider how to follow His example by reaching out to others.
5. Christmas is God’s way of getting our attention.
Through history, people kept forgetting to turn to God first and foremost. In sending Jesus, God was saying — “This is how much I love you! This is how far I am willing to go for you!”
6. Christmas is God’s way of bringing good into our lives.
Let’s prepare our hearts so the holiday season doesn’t drag us away from that goodness as we get busy and more easily distracted.
Once Christmas day comes and goes what steps will you take when you return to everyday life? Don’t forget who you are.
